49.013 Archips podana (Large Fruit-tree Tortrix) 0977
ws: M19-23mm, F20-28mm; Jun-Jul; various deciduous trees and shrubs; common in England and Wales, uncommon in Scotland where mainly found in SW.
ID: Pronounced sexual dimorphism of forewing markings; male with costal fold, female without; female with more strongly produced apex; female with more extensive and brighter orange at apex of hindwing. Unlikely to be confused with any other species but the orange apex of the hindwing will remove any doubt. A melanic form is not uncommon; in the male this form the orange colour is absent in the hindwing of the male and much reduced in the female.
