41.004 Blastobasis vittata (Dotted Masoner)
fw: 6-8mm (Sterling & Parsons); Jun-Sep(-Jan); new to UK in 2008, reached Scotland in 2018
ID: Similar to B.adustella and similarly variable. Most specimens will require genital confirmation, but examples with a warm orange-brownish (rather than grey) ground colour and several mid-wing black dots may be identifiable on external features (in my opinion).
Male genitalia: B.adustella has a narrow notched midline projection from the apex of the ventral edge of the tegumen, which is not seen in B.vittata.
Female genitalia: The apophysis length ratio posterior:anterior is ~2:1 in B.adustella and ~3:1 in B.vittata
