15.087 Phyllonorycter comparella (Poplar Leaf-miner)
ws:8mm; bivoltine Aug, Oct; white poplar (Populus alba), grey poplar (Populus canescens); NS-A local and uncommon in England
|
ID: Forewing with sufficient white that the strigulae appear as dark markings on a pale background; no basal streak; white parts with scattered dark scales > P.comparella / P.sagitella. The scattering of dark scales can be minimal in P.comparella and is usually much more marked in P.sagitella. A good means on distinguishing P.comparella from P.sagitella and other similar species (P.kuhlweinella, P.pastorella, P.apparella) is that the distal two white costal strigulae meet or almost meet costal to the black apical streak such that they isolate a semicircular brown preapical costal mark.
