fw:18-21mm (Waring & Townsend); Aug-Sep; various woody moorland plants; local resident in moorland, upland scrub and open woodland in Scotland, N.England, N&C.Wales, occasional migrant.
ID: Resting posture head-down with wings wrapped around body. Forewing and thorax pale grey with a variably expressed darker grey median fascia and brownish costal streak; antemedian, postmedian and subterminal lines all serrate the latter usually with black arrowheads projecting proximally, one or two of which are more prominent than the others; kidney mark large prominent whitish; oval mark small round and more obscure; often what appears to be a second smaller proximal and costal to the first. X.exsoleta (Sword-grass) is larger with a dark brown throax
