An overnight visit to Bringsty Common on our way north to Cumbria targeting Silver Cloud was successful. It was the first moth I saw on retrieving the traps in the morning and I ended up with 18 - all males as far as I could tell. While in Cumbria I did two trapping sessions at Cliburn Moss. A Stigmella species which I identified as S.myrtilella is new for the website, but review of 4 previous specimens identified as S.salicis from the same trapping site has resulted in their re-identification as S.myrtillella - although the main reason for re-identification is the abundance of bilberry at Cliburn. Further work is to be done on assessing the genital difference between these species and looking for larval mines. 1761 species presented |
