Stigmella - Male genitalia |
The following features should be noted:
- Genital capsule shape, width relative to height
- Vinculum: length, width, shape of the anterior concavity, shape and protrusion of the lateral angles
- Uncus: shape, extent of lobes, extent to which lobes are bifid, form of median notch, protrusion of width relative to tegumen
- Gnathos; strength, shape and extent of horizontal bar; extent, separation and degree of divergence of paramedian horns, strength and extent of lateral and anterior processes
- Valva: overall shape, shape of apex, presence of any apical (distal / posterior) processes, shape and extent of inner lobe (especially its apical (distal / posterior) margin)
- Transtilla: presence shape and extent of transverse bar; shape, extent and direction of lateral processes
- Aedeagus: overall length relative to genital capsule; presence and width of manica, presence and number of apical processes of manica, density of spiculation of manica; density, shape and distribution of cornuti and cathrema* in the vesica
* A cathrema is a sclerotised bar, band or plate in the aedeagus
