45.044 Emmelina monodactyla (Common Plume)
ws: 18-27mm; all year; bindweeds (Convolvulus spp, Calystegia spp); the commonest plume moth throughout GB.
ID: Usually pale ferruginous but very variable in colour, size and markings. There is often a striking contrast between the pale forewing and dark hindwing (personal observation). The key external feature is the hindleg proximal spur pair, the medial of which is twice as long as the lateral. The male genitalia are extremely asymmetrical (illustrated below).
E.argoteles has no distinguishing external features and the female genitalia are also very similar to E.monodactyla; the male genitalia, however, are distinct.
