63.115 Acentria ephemerella (Water Veneer) 1331
ws: m13-17mm female usually brachypterous but a fully-winged form does occur which is larger than the male; Jul-Sep but the life of an individual is no more than 2 days as an adult; various pondplants especially Canadian waterweed (Elodea canadensis), pondweeds (Potomogeton spp); common in ponds, lakes and slow-flowing rivers. Males fly low over water and can swarm on hot nights. Females remain under water with mating occurring at the surface.
ID: Unique and unmistakable (once it has been recognised as a moth!)
