fw: 10-12mm; bivoltine May-Jun, Aug (univoltine in Scotland (May-Jul); a wide range of trees and plants; common - ssp vulgata in England, Wales and lowland Scotland, ssp scotica in Scotland
ID: Costa curved; central spot small, sometimes absent; whitish subterminal line and tornal spot; cross-lines angled near costa; black streaks along sides of abdomen. Form vulgata is grey, tawny or reddish-brown, darker along costa and with cross-lines of variable strength. Form atropicta is dark brown with weak cross-lines. Ssp scotica is (often) grey with strong cross-lines.
