48.001 Anthophila fabriciana (Nettle-tap)
ws: 11-15mm; May-Oct; nettle (Urtica spp); common throughout GB
ID: A.fabriciana is distinguished from other members of the family by its smooth-scaled labial palps. Prochoreutis spp are similar but the forewing is marked with silvery spots and S2 of the labial palps has a ventral tuft of long scales. Choreutis pariana is also somewhat similar but it has much more restricted white markings, usually red-brown cilia and S2 of the labial palps is rough-scaled ventrally.
