fw: 13-15mm (Waring & Townsend), ws: 28-35mm (MBGBI9); May-Jul, occasionally bivoltine in south Aug; hawkweeds (Hieraceum spp), hawk's-beards (Crepis spp), sow-thistles (Sonchus spp); common in south England, more local north from Midlands and in Wales and Scotland.
ID: Forewing ground colour white or pale grey with a broad black median fascia.
