ID: Male is distinct in having fairly uniform brown upper surfaces to both wings with a small black eye near the forewing apex. Females are similar to Pyronia tithonus (Gatekeeper) but are usually larger and lack the orange patch on the hindwing upperside and eye spots through the pale band on the hindwing underside.
