73.252 Tholera cespitis (Hedge Rustic)
fw: 15-19mm (Waring & Townsend), ws: 34-40mm (MBGBI9); Aug-Sep; hard-bladed grasses eg mat-grass (Nardus stricta), wavy hair-grass (Deschampsia flexuosa); common in grassy places in England and Wales, more local in Scotland.
ID: Forewing broad, ground colour blackish-brown; oval and kidney marks outlined whitish, dart mark outlined black; pale antemedian, postmedian and subterminal lines, the former edged black distally, the latter two edged black proximally (MBGBI9 interprets these as black lines edged pale). Antenna bipectinate in male, simple in female. Hindwing whitish at base with a blackish-grey terminal fascia; this fascia is much broader, and the base more heavily suffused grey in the female.
