ID: Forewing pale yellowish with brown speckling and a larger brown mark towards the apex. Requires gen det to distinguish from B.pinicolella - although Berggren notes that all specimens of B.confusella with an image at BOLD lack a forewing spot at ⅓ and that this spot is commonly present in B.pinicolella.
Male genitalia: B.pinicolella has a longer, narrower valva; in B.confusella the sides of the uncus are smoother with longer finer setae, rugose with coarse setae in B.pinicolella; in B.confusella the cornutus is distinct, narrower and less distinct in B.pinicolella
Female genitalia: sclerotisation in the ductus bursae is longer, narrower and straighter in B.pinicolella; the signum is longer in B.confusella occupying ~0.7 the length of the corpus bursae c/w ~0.5
Male genitalia: B.pinicolella has a longer, narrower valva; in B.confusella the sides of the uncus are smoother with longer finer setae, rugose with coarse setae in B.pinicolella; in B.confusella the cornutus is distinct, narrower and less distinct in B.pinicolella
