ID: Forewing ground colour a variable shade of brown from pale sandy through reddish and greyish to blackish; apex rounded; pale subterminal line usually distinct; hindwing uniformly fuscous; antenna distinctly bipectinate in male, shortly bipectinate in female. Can usually be distinguished from its congeners by the large pale-outlined oval and kidney marks. O.populeti (Lead-coloured Drab) is very similar in forewing shape and markings but is grey rather than brown, the subterminal line is less distinct and may have some blackish marks on its proximal margin. Hoplodrina ambigua (Vine's Rustic) is grey with slightly smaller pale-outlined stigmata, a more pointed forewing apex a whitish hindwing and fasciculate antennae in the male, simple in the female.
