49.008 Philedone gerningana (Northern Reveller)
ws: 12-17mm; Jul-Aug; Cinqufoils (Potentilla spp), rock rose (Helianthemum spp), bilberry etc (Vaccinium spp), thrift (Armeria maritima); typically a species of upland heathland throughout GB, but also occurs in limestone areas at lower altitude.
ID: Characterised in both sexes by the strong contrast between a pale ochreous-yellow basal area and the red-brown median fascia; sharply demarcated proximal border to median fascia with diffuse distal border; and in the bipecinate antenna of the male. Markings somewhat similar to some examples of Epiphyas postvittana, but tectiform resting posture of P.gerningana distinguishes both sexes and male E.postvittana has weakly dentate-ciliate antennae.
