70.163 Eupithecia lariciata (Larch Pug)
fw: 10-12mm; May-Jul; European larch (Larix decidua); common throughout GB
ID: Grey-brown; white spot or crest on thorax; cross-lines acutely angled around central spot. Similar to E.egenaria (Fletcher's Pug), which lacks the thoracic white spot; E.tripunctaria (White-spotted Pug), E.subfuscata (Grey Pug) and E.virgaureata (Goldenrod Pug). Genital dissection required for confident identification.
Male genitalia: S8 ventral plate; kink in valval margin
Female genitalia: bursa copulatrix full of spicules with a neat cut-off line at junction with ductus bursae ventrally and with a small semicircle of clear bursa dorsally; ductus seminilis broad and short. E.tripunctaria/virguareata do not have so much of the bursa membrane spiculate; E.subfuscata has a separate spiculate section at the anterior end of the ductus bursae.
