ws: 18-22mm; Jul-Aug; initially various plants eg greater bird's-foot trefoil (Lotus uliginosus) then decaying leaves; common in southern half on England
ID: Colour variable from orange-yellow through reddish-purple to almost black but unlikely to be mistaken for any other species.
