Subfamily: Thiotrichinae (1G 1S)
35.037 Thiotricha subocellea (Marjoram Case-bearer)
ws: 10-11mm (MBGBI4.2); Jul-Aug; marjorum (Origanum vulgare), water mint (Mentha aquatica), thyme (Thymus polytrichus); NS-B in dry grassland in England, Wales, S&C Scotland
ID: Norfolk Moths states that this is an unmistakeable species. This may be the case (once familiar with the species) for a specimen in fresh condition in which there is a prominent fuscous streak in the dorso-basal quadrant of the forewing - but the fuscous markings are variable and when worn I think it is easily confusable with some of the pale Elachista species, unless close attention is paid to the form of the labial palps.
Male genitalia: S8 forming complete ring around the genitalia (the ventral plate has a characteristic bifid apex); valvae asymmetric, he right valva with a straight ventral appendage
