72.060 Hypenodes humidalis (Marsh Oblique-barred)
fw: 6-8mm (Waring & Townsend), ws: 15-18mm (MBGBI10); Jun-Aug, occasionally bivoltine Sep; unknown; NS-B in moor, marsh, fen & heath in the west of GB and occasionally in the Norfolk Broads.
ID: Characterised by small size (it was the smallest British Noctuid before it became an Erebid) and dark oblique cross-lines/fasciae on a pale brown forewing. Markings as follows: subbasal line - dark, dentate, usually poorly-marked; median fascia or line - variable breadth, oblique, dark, diffuse, lined white distally, extending from dorsum to a blackish central forewing spot ~1/3 from costa; post-median line - oblique, dark, narrowly lined white distally, best-marked distal to the central spot, obsolete in dorsal half and at its costal end; subterminal fascia - oblique, dark, diffuse, extending to apex, diffusely lined whitish distally; terminal fascia - diffuse dark; terminal line - blackish, well-marked with dots at the veins. The median fascia/line may end before it reaches the central spot; the postmedian line may curve proximally at its dorsal end to connect with the median fascia. Main confusion is to look for it amongst the micro-moth families.
