* Adults reported to Norfolk Moths occurred early April, late June to early August and in September
ID: Forewing with postmedian dorsal pale spot only > F.septembrella or Stigmella catharticella
According to MBGBI1 (and followed by others) in F.septembrella the hindtibia has short spines and the tarsi are unspotted, while in S.catharticella the hindtibia has long hairs and the tarsi have dark spots (MBGBI1 and other sources do not make it clear whether this applies to all the tarsi or only the hindtarsi, but judging from the few web images available it applies only to the hindtarsi). As far as I can tell buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica) the foodplant of S.catharticella, does not occur in Pound Wood)
Unfortunately §1 escaped during photography, so the ID could not be confirmed by gen.det.
