ws: 22-26mm (Goater); Jun-Aug; sea pea (Lathyrus japonicus), common bird's-foot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus), spiny restharrow (Ononis spinosa); NS-A - coastal sand-dunes and shingle from Norfolk to Kent + Lancashire
ID: Forewing largely brown with a broad white subcostal streak, dorsal and costal margins of mixed light and dark fuscous and black scales; dorsal margin often has a more discrete black dot just before 1/2; brown area shows a gradation from reddish-brown towards the costa and termen, buff-brown towards the base and dorsum, and shows a variable black discal dot at 2/3; subcostal white streak reaches apex and has a narrow black border dorsally. Anerastia lotella shows a similar forewing pattern but its pale streak is less contrasting and costal rather than subcostal and fades before the apex. Pleurota bicostella (Oecophoridae) also shows a similar forewing pattern but it has very distinctive labial palps, a costal rather than subcostal white streak, a much narrower brown streak and a broader pale dorsal streak which contains more prominent discal dots at 1/3 and 2/3.
