72.076 Catocala fraxini (Clifden Nonpareil / Blue Underwing)
fw: 41-48mm (Waring & Townsend); Aug-Oct; aspen (Populus tremula); extinct former very local resident, scarce migrant mainly to SE&E coasts of England and E coast of Scotland.
ID: The large size and blue median fascia of the hindwing readily identify this species. With the forewings covering the hindwings a fairly prominent central white forewing spot should distinguish this from other Catocala species.
