fw: 17-19mm (Waring & Townsend), ws: 38-44mm (MBGBI10); Jul-Aug; grasses (Poaceae); peaty moorland and grassland; NS-A at >200m in mainland Scotland, Orkney and Arran.
A.e.marmorata (Exile) is larger [fw: 19-20mm, ws 45-50mm] and confined to Shetland

ID: Ground colour is usually dark brown but ranges from pale brown to blackish; forewing markings generally indistinct, but distal margin of kidney mark usually outlined white and curved pale postmedian line usually discernible. Thorax broad and shaggy, without crests. Similar to A.monoglypha (Dark Arches) which is usually larger (fw 19-26mm), has a prominent pale 'W' in the subterminal line and a thoracic crest. Also similar to A.remissa (Dusky Brocade) and Mniotype adusta (Dark Brocade), which are similarly sized but have prominent double thoracic crests.
Female genitalia: Ductus bursae short and scobinate; 4 linear signa. A.remissa has a single linear signum; A.monoglypha has a longer ductus bursae and more elongate emarginate anal papillae.
