35.150 Carpatolechia notatella (Willow Grey)
ws: 12-15mm; May-Jun; sallow (Salix caprea); fairly common in woodland, heath, scrub and fens, through Britain except N.Scotland
ID: Teleiodes wagae is similar but has a lighter ground colour and the markings are distinct black dots rather than streak-like and diffuse.
C.fugitivella is similar but may have a dark fuscous streak in fold and/or raised scales dorsal to the fold.
Only C.notatella has labial palp S2 greyish-white with 2 fuscous bands (S3 is also greyish-white with 2 fuscous bands)
Female genitalia: From my provisional descriptions of the signum: Signum more diamond-shaped than ovoid and apices not notched - excludes Teleiodes spp. Signum wider than long excludes C.alburnella. Transverse ridge occupying <1/3 height of signum excludes C.fugitivella and C.decorella. Separating C.proximella from C.notatella may not be straightforward - but provisionally: in C.notatella the length of signum posterior to the transverse ridge is approximately equal to the length of the signum anterior to the transverse ridge, while in C.proximella the posterior length is >2x the anterior length.
