73.313 Euxoa tritici (White-line Dart)
fw: 13-17mm; Jul-Aug; various herbaceous plants; common throughout GB.
ID: Forewing ground colour ranges from sandy to blackish-grey, tending to be paler on sandy soils and heathland and dark on peaty moorland. It can usually be identified by a series of ~6 short black streaks or arrow-heads in the terminal area of the forewing. A pale subcostal stripe is often (but not always) present and gives this species its English name. On the forewing underside E.cursoria (Coast Dart) has a large blurred kidney mark with a pale band distal to it, E.tritici has a small crescent mark and no pale band; on the hindwing underside E.tritici has a terminal band of dark shading which is not seen in E.cursoria. (Waring and Townsend is confusing about these underside features - which are illustrated and better described in MBGBI9 p133).
