ws: m46-52mm, f48-56mm; bi/trivoltine Mar-Oct; cock's-foot (Dactylis glomerata), common couch (Elytrigia repens), false brome (Brachypodium sylvaticum), Yorkshire-fog (Holcus lanatus); common in England, Wales and north Scotland
ssp tercis (cream spots) occurs in England, Wales and in some parts of Scotland - mainly around Inverness
ssp oblita (white spots) occurs in north and north-west Scotland
ssp insula (orange spots) occurs in the Isles of Scilly

ID: Somewhat similar to Lasiommata megera (Wall), which has an orange ground colour on the upperside. The hindwing underside of L.megera is brown with discrete target-like subterminal spots each of which has a small white centre with a small black ring around it; in P.aegeria the hindwing underside is yellowish and the subterminal spots are more diffuse with a pale centre, a broad dusky surround and no black.
