72.030 Euplagia quadripunctaria (Jersey Tiger)
ws: 52-65mm (MBGBI9), fw: 28-33mm (Waring & Townsend); Jul-Sep; various herbaceous plants; NS-B in S.Devon and Dorset, occasional migrant elsewhere.
ID: Forwing black with creamy-white markings which are fairly constant - dorsal streak from base nearly to tornus, basal streak from base of costa nearly to dorsal streak at 1/5, short subbasal costal dash, oblique antemedian fascia from costa towards tornus, short median costal dash, postmedian fascia from costa to centre of subterminal fascia, subterminal fascia; at tornal end of subterminal fascia is a yellowish patch with 2 black spots; thorax black dorsally with creamy white lateral streaks; hindwing red with large blue-black discal, subapical and pretornal spots. In f.lutescens the hindwing ground colour is yellow.
