49.055 Cnephasia communana (Southern Grey Tortrix)
ws: 18-22mm; May-Jun; various herbaceous plants; local in rough meadows, fens and chalk downland in E.Anglia and S.England
ID: Said to be the only Cnephasia to fly before late May, but this is not reliable enough to be sure of identity and genital dissection is required to confirm.
Male genitalia: sacculus medium length (~2/3 length of valva); aedeagus straight. C.pumicana/pasiuana also have medium sacculi but have curved aedeagi.
Female genitalia: colliculum unlipped, symmetrical, long and bulbous; sterigma not notched, slightly bowed
