ID: Forewing ground colour ranges from pale ochreous to blackish; crosslines, veins and margins of stigmata pale ochreous but variable in expression and strength. Basal line often obsolete and interrupted by a black dot; antemedian line usually weak, sharply angled near costa; postmedian line usually distinct; a row of interneural black dots, or triangles proximal to the subterminal line, the dots of variable size and strength but always best marked at the costal end; a pale terminal fascia is most apparent in darker specimens; a terminal line of small interneural black dots which may be obsolete. Hindwing whitish with a large central fuscous crescent, a variable but usually incomplete fuscous subterminal fascia, a variable fuscous suffusion of the dorsal half of the wing base; a blackish terminal line; cilia whitish. Agrochola lychnidis (Beaded Chestnut) has a uniformly dark fuscous hindwing; narrower, more elongate, oval and kidney marks; and the subterminal costal mark is usually a diffuse wedge.
