49.096 Hysterophora maculosana (Small Bluebell Beauty)
ws:10-14mm; May-Jun; bluebell (Endymion non-scriptus); local in woodland throughout GB
ID: Forewing ground colour white; irregular grey basal, median and subterminal fasciae, the latter running from costa to mid-termen; black spots usually as follows: subbasal, ~3 along distal edge of median fascia, 6-8 mid-dorsal, 4-6 proximal half of costa; black terminal line edged red-brown proximally; male with a short basal costal fold; underside dark brown with white tornus in male and white ciliary line in female. Forewing pattern less distinct in female. Hindwing upperside dark brown in both sexes; underside in male - white, shaded dark brown at base of dorsum and apex, in female - dark brown. Head, thorax and tegulae blackish brown; red-brown thoracic crest; pair of white metathoracic scale tufts (less apparent in female). Antennae shortly ciliate, white dorsally in male, simple, grey dorsally in female. Labial palps predominantly black laterally, predominantly white medially.
