ID: Thinly scaled red to brown with one or two black spots; antenna finely ciliate in male, simple in female. ssp fuliginosa - forewing red to red-brown, hindwing bright pink with variable grey shading (more grey suffusion in northern England than in the south); ssp borealis - forewing red-brown to brown, hindwing usually sooty-grey with a pink streak along the dorsum.
