70.012 Idaea trigeminata (Treble Brown-spot)
fw: 10-11mm; bivoltine May-Jul, Jul-Sep; uncertain (withered ivy leaves?); locally common in SC&SE England
ID: Readily identified by the band of dark brown smudges distal to the 3rd cross-line of the forewing. According to Waring, the English name comes from the idea that these smudges occur in 3 groups, but in reality the dorsal (two) groups are usually merged. The forewing costa is marked dark brown from the base to the 1st cross-line - and I think it makes more sense to consider this to be the 3rd "brown-spot". Both wings also have a prominent central dark spot.
