ws: 20-26mm; Jul-Aug; cottongrass (Eriophorum spp), tufted hair-grass (Deschampsia caespitosa) and other grasses; uncommon on damp heath, mosses, fens and marshes throughout GB, least uncommon in SE England
ID: Similar to C.permutatella which has an additional white (subterminal) line bordering the distal edge of the quadrangular white spot.
(C.osthelderi and C.speculalis look identical to C.permutatella and have each occurred in Britain on one occasion only)
