73.008 Chrysodeixis chalcites (Golden Twin-spot)
fw: 15-18mm; rare migrant with <500 British records, Jul-Nov.
ID: Very similar to C.acuta (Tunbridge Wells Gem). Both vary in ground colour from golden-brown to chocolate-brown depending on conditions experienced in the larval stage. In C.acuta there is a dark somewhat angled line at the forewing apex curving away from the termen to about halfway across the wing; this line is absent in C.chalcites. Male C.chalcites has black anal tufts; lacking in C.acuta. Male C.acuta has large fawn brushes on the sides of the abdomen; these are much less obvious in C.chalcites.
