ws:14-20mm (MBGBI5.2), fw: 7-10mm (Sterling & Parsons); May-Jun; Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris); NS-B in pine woodland in England (mainly SE and E.Anglia) and Scotland
ID: Labial palps, head and thorax predominantly orange; basal of forewing predominantly grey-brown, apical half predominantly orange, with some grading from one to the other colour in the mide-zone; variable admixture of white or white-tipped scales which may concentrate in blotches and strigulae; hindwing whitish in male, pale grey in female. P.posticana is similar but smaller (ws 12-15, fw 6-7mm), darker and with dark grey-brown hindwings in both sexes.
