40.013 Mompha locupletella (Flame Mompha)
ws: 9-12mm (MBGBI2), fw 4.5-5.5mm (Sterling & Parsons); bivoltine May-Jul, Aug-Sep; chickweed/marsh/broad-leaved/spear-leaved willowherbs (Epilobium alsinifolium/palustre/montanum/lanceolatum); locally common in damp habitats throughout GB.
Antenna of female has white annulations and apical 1/4 entirely white.

ID: 3 species of Mompha have a white costal spot at ¾ and some bright orange forewing colour. In M.locupletella and M.terminella the orange areas form the dominent colour of the central part of the forewing, while in M.raschkiella the orange colour is more dispersed and patchy. M.locupletella and M.terminella can be distinguished as follows: 1) Size: M.locupletella is larger ws: 9-12mm vs 7-9mm, fw: 4.5-5.5mm vs 3.0-4.5mm; 2) Head: shining silvery grey in M.locupletella, shining ochreous-white in M.terminella; 3) forewing subbasal black spot almost completely surrounded by leaden grey in M.terminella.
