73.206 Lithophane leautieri (Blair's Shoulder-knot)
fw: 17-20mm (Waring & Townsend), ws: 40-45mm (MBGBI10); Sep-Nov; cypresses (Cupressa spp); recent colonist first reported Isle of Wight 1951 has gradually spread north and now common in England, Wales and S.Scotland.
ID: Forewing narrow, ground colour grey, with black streaks - the basal of which is long and strong. Kidney mark usually tinted brownish. Sometimes shows a pink flush on undersides of wings and on abdomen. L.ornitopus (Grey Shoulder-knot) also has a grey forewing with a black basal streak - its forewing is broader and the basal streak is curved. L.hepatica (Pale Pinion) and L.semibrunnea (Tawny Pinion) have browner forewing ground colour, a less intense basal streak and prominent forward projecting anterior lateral thoracic angles.
