72.006 Hypena (Hypena) obsitalis (Bloxworth Snout)
fw: 15-17mm (Waring & Townsend), ws: 29-32mm (MBGBI10); bivoltine Jul-Aug, Sep-Oct overwinters as adult then May-Jun; pellitory-of-the-wall (Parietaria officinalis); RDB resident since 1990 around south facing cliffs locally on south coast of England between Cornwall and Dorset and rare migrant first recorded 1884 (at Bloxworth,Dorset).
ID: Varies considerably in extent and position of dark suffusion of forewing. Differs from H.proboscidalis (Snout) in having an irregular postmedian crossline. The very rare H.obesalis (Paignton Snout) is similar but larger (fw 18-22mm), has a broken postmedian line and lacks an erect scale tuft in the oval mark.
