ID: Both Hemaris species are distinct in having much of the wing membrane unscaled.
The two species are very similar and can be distinguished by the following features:

- Scaled terminal border of both forewing and hindwing broader in H.fuciformis, as is the transverse vein of the forewing
- Subcostal cell at base of forewing is divided by a longitudinal vein in H.fuciformis but not in H.tityus
- First two abdominal segments black in H.tityus, red-brown in H.fuciformis
