52.002 Sesia apiformis (Hornet Moth)
ws: 33-46mm (MBGBI2), fw 17-21mm (Waring); Jun-Jul; poplars (Populus spp); NS-B - mainly SE England but occurs locally elsewhere in England and Wales. Comes to the HOR lure between 9am and 1pm.
ID: Antenna lamellate in male. Similar to S.bembeciformis (Lunar Hornet Moth). S.apiformis has yellow head, yellow anterior half of tegulae, dark brown patagia. S.bembeciformis has blackish head, blackish tegulae, yellow patagia (collar).
