49.299 Pseudococcyx posticana (Dark Pine Shoot Moth)
ws: 12-15mm (BTM), fw: 6-7mm (Sterling & Parsons); May-Jun; Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris); NS-B in pine woodland and heaths throughout GB
ID: Labial palps and head dark orange-brown; forewing predominantly grey-brown, suffused orange-brown towards the apex; hindwing dark-grey brown. P.turionella is similar but larger (ws 14-20mm, fw 7-10mm), brighter with more extensive orange in the forewing and with a whitish hindwing in the male, pale grey in the female. Clavigesta sylvestrana has a grey head and labial palps and a paler forewing and hindwing - and flies late Jun - Sep.
