49.245 Epinotia tetraquetrana (Birch-borer Tortrix)
ws: 12-16mm (MBGBI5.2), fw: 5.5-7.5mm (Sterling & Parsons); Apr-May; birch (Betula spp), alder (Alnus glutinosa); common throughout GB
ID: Similar to E.immundana which averages smaller (ws: 12-14mm, fw 5.5-7.0mm). The dorsal blotch in E.tetraquetrana is subquadrate with its basal margin at 60-90° to the dorsum; in E.immundana it is triangular with its basal edge at 45° to the dorsum.
Male genitalia: Small cluster of saccular spines; neck of valva obviously narrower than cuculus.
In E.immundana there are saccular spines all along the outer half of the saccular margin and the neck is not much narrower than the cucullus.
