38.049 Elachista stabilella (Southern Dwarf)
ws: 7-8mm; bivoltine May-Jun, Jul-Aug; various grasses; RDB - grassland in SE.England with records north to Yorkshire

ID: Forewing dark with pale markings involving the bases of the terminal cilia; frons, head and neck tufts white, contrasting with thorax; forewing with white median fascia, costal and tornal spots.
Male genitalia: claw-like uncus lobes > E.consortella/freyerella/stabilella; apical hook on valva excludes E.consortella.
E.freyerella has grey vertex and neck tufts, not contrasting with the thorax and is best distinguished on this feature.

Ben and I also obtained this species at Foulden on 23/05/2016. The identification was confirmed by gen.det. but, having previously processed the August specimen presented above, I did not retain any images of the May specimen - this is unfortunate because the May specimen turns out to have been the FIRST FOR NORFOLK
