49.184 Lobesia reliquana (Wood Marble)
ws: 11-13mm; May-Jun; mainly oak (Quercus spp), also blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), birch (Betula spp); locally common in S.England and Wales, less common further north.
ID: Characterised by its orange ground colour mixed with ferruginous and black; four closely placed narrow costal pale costal strigulae at 1/3 coalesce and then form pale margins to a triangular black dorsal patch; a pale curved costal strigula at 2/3; a diffuse black and ferruginous patch between the two pale costal strigulae and more or less confluent with black and ferruginous patch at tornus. Hindwing of male white at base, dark in apical area; female dark throughout.
