73.254 Cerapteryx graminis (Antler Moth)
fw: 12-17mm (Waring & Townsend), ws: male 27-32mm, female 35-39mm (MBGBI9); Jul-Sep, diurnal and nocturnal; hard-bladed grasses eg sheep's-fuscue (Festuca ovina), mat-grass (Narda stricta) and purple moor-grass (Molinia caerulea); common in grassland throughout GB.
ID: Forewing ground colour light to dark olive-brown and may be tinged reddish; a prominent white antler mark, variable in extent, along the vein bordering the dorsal margins of the oval and kidney marks and along 2 or 3 veins leading from here towards the termen; further pale streaks in the basal half of the wing; oval and kidney marks whitish or outlined whitish; variable black interneural marks. Male has bipectinate antennae; female has simple antennae and averages larger.
