ws: 18-22mm; Jun-Aug; polyphagous on herbaceous plants; common throughout GB.
North of Cheshire form octomaculana with a clear white ground colour becomes more prevalent.
Synonyms: C.chrysantheana, C.octomaculana (Pierce and Metcalfe)

Cnephasia stephensiana §15 male

ID: Not reliably distinguished from other Cnephasia species on external characteristics.
Male genitalia: sacculus medium to long (~3/4 length of valva), curved dorsally in the plane of the valva.
In all other species with a medium or long sacculus it curves ventrally.
Female genitalia: the only Cnepahsia species with a notched sterigma
