ID: Polymorphic with 3 variable forms. Usually recognisable from the narrow forewing with purplish-brown and silver-white colour.
Form hyemana: silver-white ground colour with extensive red-brown markings; median fascia and subapical spot usually discernable
Form griseana: red-brown markings much less extensive
Form brunneana: unicolorous dark red-brown
