73.157 Apamea anceps (Large Nutmeg)
fw: 16-21mm (Waring & Townsend), ws: 38-44mm (MBGBI10); Jun-Jul; grasses (Poaceae); mainly on farmland in SE & SC.England, more local elsewhere in England and Wales.
ID: Forewing ground colour pale straw to sandy brown with sandy marbling especially towards the termen; stigmata slightly paler than ground colour. Antenna: male - fasciculate, female - shortly setose. A.remissa (Dusky Brocade) lacks the sandy marbling. A.sordens (Rustic Shoulder-knot) has a black slightly branched basal streak (a basal streak may be present in A.anceps but if so it is brown, indistinct and not branched). A.oblonga (Crescent Striped) has a more uniformly coloured forewing.
