73.160 Apamea scolopacina (Slender Brindle)
fw: 14-17mm (Waring & Townsend), ws: 32-36mm (MBGBI10); Jun-Aug; woodland grasses; common in woodland through most of England, Wales and Dumfries & Galloway, more local in E.England north from East Anglia.
ID: Forewing ground colour pale straw to ferruginous-brown; dark double crest on metathorax and dark streak on adjacent part of forewing dorsum; scalloped, fine, dark antemedian and postmedian lines; kidney mark outlined white; variable fuscous costal blotch in basal half of wing; oval as ground colour and therefore usually obscure, but when the costal blotch encompasses it it is revealed; sinuous ferruginous subterminal line with a broad diffuse ferruginous borders in its dorsal 2/3, the line usually slightly paler than its borders; terminal line dark fuscous with interneural semicircular dots; terminal fringe with a pale basal line and strongly chequered dark fuscous. Antenna: male- setose, female - finely ciliate.
